Hey Ian, appreciate you comment.
:-)
From my perspective - I don't think Jim is saying here that we are to abandon all the other purpose for the body of Christ or say they are not important and just dig into "the finer points of end-times information" as our primary task.

It's a given that as the body of Christ (as individuals and together) we need to allow Christ the freedom to work in and through us. So that His plans and purposes on earth will be fulfilled. It's amazing that He chooses us to work along side and with Him!

I think Jim is addressing the huge lacking in the church today in their desire and enthusiasm for the return of Christ. They know it's coming - but it's not a reality they live in light of everyday. The Bible says otherwise!

It's not a given that most churches are following the words of Jesus to be looking and anticipating His return. Not only has the coming of Christ and the urgency of the times we live in been watered down by Christians and even in the teaching from the church...it is in most cases "taboo" to even bring the subject of Christ's return to attention.

That is not right.
We are to keep our eyes fixed and be watchful and ready at all times while fulfulling the calling and plans that God has predestined for each one.
Jesus many times in the new testament to be ready, be watchful and waiting, continually praying.
Blessings!

With all due respect, I am not in complete agreement with the author of this column. Yes, I agree that we should have a longing for Christ's return. That said, the Church is a mission field as the members continually show limited understanding of the great doctrines of the Faith; eschatology included. It is my opinion that there are greater needs in the Church than knowing the finer points of end-times information.
